This procedure involves removing the entire front layer of the cornea, including the damaged endothelium. The back layer of the cornea is then replaced with an artificial implant. DALK is a more invasive procedure than other types of transplant surgery, but it has a higher success rate and can be used to treat more severe cases of Cornea Degeneration.

SALK is the least invasive type of cornea transplant surgery and is typically used to treat milder cases of Cornea Degeneration. In SALK, only the outermost layer of the cornea – the epithelium – is removed.
