Cornea Transplant / Keratoplasty In Belgaum

Cornea transplant, also known as keratoplasty, is a surgical procedure to replace the damaged cornea with a healthy one. The cornea is the clear, outermost layer of the eye. It helps focus light on the retina and protects the eye from debris and infection.

Cornea transplantation is usually done to improve vision. It can also be done to treat certain eye conditions, such as severe corneal damage from an injury or infection, or advanced keratoconus.

Mantracare Belgaum has been performing cornea transplants for over 25 years. We have a team of experienced surgeons who are dedicated to providing the best possible care for our patients.

Types of Corneal Transplant Surgeries

There are many types of corneal transplant surgeries, each with its own benefits and drawbacks. Penetrating keratoplasty (PK), Descemet’s stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK/ DSAEK), Descemet’s membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK), deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK), superficial anterior lamellar keratoplasty (SALK) are the most common types of corneal transplants.

PK is a popular surgery because it is a fast procedure that results in good vision. However, patients may experience some discomfort and swelling for a few weeks after the surgery. DSEK/DSAEK is a more involved surgery than PK and can result in better vision but also more complications, such as irregular astigmatism. DMEK is a minimally invasive surgery that does not require removal of the stromal layer and has fewer complications than DSEK/DSAEK, but it may not result in as good vision as PK or DALK. SALK is an option for patients who do not want to have any surgical procedures done on their eyes and who are looking for the best possible vision.
