Vitrectomy Surgery In Chennai

Vitrectomy is a procedure that uses lasers and microscopes to remove the vitreous humor (the clear gel that fills the eye) and fixate the retina. This procedure is often used to treat conditions like macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy.

In many cases, vitrectomy surgery can be performed as an outpatient procedure. If you are having difficulty seeing in one or both eyes, your doctor may suggest that you have a pre-operative examination to determine if you are a good candidate for this type of surgery.

Vitrectomy surgery is a very safe procedure and most patients experience minimal pain or discomfort following the surgery. If you are considering vitrectomy surgery in Chennai, be sure to speak with an expert at Mantracare to learn more about your options and how best to proceed.

Types of Vitrectomy

There are three main types of vitrectomy: pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), transconjunctival sutureless vitrectomy (TSV), and endoscopic subretinal or epiretinal approach.

PPV is the most common type of vitrectomy, performed in about two-thirds of cases.

TSV involves using a small incision in the lower lid and the use of a special instrument to cut through the conjunctiva without stitches. The instrument is then used to hold the eyeball open while the surgeon makes a smaller incision in the vitreous and removes the clear liquid inside.

Endoscopic subretinal or epiretinal approaches involve making an incision just beneath the eye’s surface, through which a fiber optic cable can be passed directly to the retina.

These approaches are less invasive than PPV and TSV, but they also have more potential complications, including infection and retinal detachment.
