There are many different types of corneal transplant surgeries, each with its own unique benefits and drawbacks. Penetrating keratoplasty (PK), Descemet’s stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK/ DSAEK), Descemet’s membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK), deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK), superficial anterior lamellar keratoplasty (SALK) are the most common types of corneal transplant surgery.

DALK is a relatively new type of cornea transplant surgery that uses a specialized laser to remove the damaged layers of the cornea. This procedure is typically used when there is significant damage to the outer layer of the cornea, which can lead to vision loss. SALK is a newer form of DALK that uses a different type of laser to remove the damaged layers of the cornea. This procedure is often used when there is significant damage to both the inner and outer layers of the cornea, or when other forms of PK are not suitable for specific reasons.
