Keratoplasty /Cornea Transplant Surgery in Muzaffarnagar

There are a number of different types of corneal transplant surgeries, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Penetrating keratoplasty (PK), Descemet’s stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK/ DSAEK), Descemet’s membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK), deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK), superficial anterior lamellar keratoplasty (SALK) are all common procedures used to restore vision in people who have lost their eyesight due to advanced age or a serious eye disease.

Each type of surgery has its own set of benefits and drawbacks. PK is the most popular type of corneal transplant, because it is the least invasive and has the lowest risk of complications. DSEK is a more invasive procedure than PK, but it results in better vision because it restores more of the damaged cornea. DMEK is a less-invasive version of DSEK that is often used when other procedures, such as PK, don’t offer optimal outcomes. SALK is an intermediate-level procedure that offers good vision but comes with a higher risk of complications than either DSEK or DMEK. Finally, artificial cornea transplant (keratoprosthesis) is a newer option that uses technology to create a replica of the natural eye inside the patient’s skull instead of replacing their actual eye. While this procedure has a high success rate, it is still relatively new and thus its long-term effects are not yet known.
