Keratoplasty /Cornea Transplant Surgery in Noida

There are a variety of types of corneal transplant surgeries, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Penetrating keratoplasty (PK), Descemet’s stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK/ DSAEK), Descemet’s membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK), deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK), superficial anterior lamellar keratoplasty (SALK) and artificial cornea transplant (Keratoprosthesis) are all commonly used to restore vision in people with Corneal Degeneration. 

PK is the most common type of operation, performed in approximately two thirds of cases, and involves removing a small amount of the outer layer of the cornea. DSEK and DSAEK involve removing the entire layer of epithelium over the stroma, while DMEK removes just the basement membrane. DALK is a relatively new procedure that uses heat to fuse together the upper and lower layers of the cornea. SALK is less invasive than PK or DSEK, but it does not always result in better vision. Finally, Keratoprosthesis replaces part or all of an artificial eye with tissue from a patient’s own eye. This procedure is typically used when other forms of surgery have failed or when there is significant damage to the natural eye due to disease or injury.
