Keratoplasty /Cornea Transplant Surgery in Solapur

There are many types of corneal transplant surgeries, each with its own set of benefits and drawbacks. Penetrating keratoplasty (PK), Descemet’s stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK/ DSAEK), Descemet’s membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK), deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK), and superficial anterior lamellar keratoplasty (SALK) are all commonly used to improve the vision of patients with corneal diseases.

PK is a popular approach that involves removing the damaged outer layer of the cornea using a sharp blade called a microkeratome. This procedure preserves as much of the underlying eye tissue as possible, which helps to prevent further deterioration and improve visual quality over time. 

DSEK is a similar procedure that uses a suction device to remove the damaged layer from around the center of the eye. DMEK is an alternative technique that uses long, thin incisions instead of a microkeratome or suction device. This method allows for a deeper removal of the damaged layer and tends to be more successful in restoring vision than DSEK or DMEK alone. 

DALK is similar to DMEK in that it uses long, thin incisions, but it also employs freeze-drying technology to help preserve underlying tissue. SALK is a newer technique that combines elements of both DMEK and DALK. It uses incisions to remove the outer layer of the cornea and freeze-drying to preserve the inner layer. This approach results in less damage to surrounding tissue and a quicker recovery time than DALK alone.
