Keratoplasty /Cornea Transplant Surgery in Thane

There are a variety of types of corneal transplant surgeries, each with its own unique benefits and disadvantages. Penetrating keratoplasty (PK), Descemet’s stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK/ DSAEK), Descemet’s membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK), deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK), and superficial anterior lamellar keratoplasty (SALK) are all commonly used in Cornea, and they are all considered advanced procedures.

PK is the most common type of corneal transplant surgery, and it involves removing the damaged layer of the cornea using a special tool called a microkeratome. The Microkeratome cuts through the tough outer layer of the cornea, which then breaks down and falls off. This leaves the healthy inner layer of the cornea behind.

DSEK is similar to PK, but it involves removing just the damaged layer of the cornea. DSEK is often used when there is only minor damage to the surface of the eye, or when other treatments such as cryotherapy or laser therapy have not worked well enough.

DMEK is a more advanced version of DSEK that uses a special tool to remove both the damaged layer of the cornea and part of the underlying stroma (the tissue that holds the cells in place). This allows for a better visual outcome.

DALK is similar to DMEK, except that it does not remove any of the stroma. This type of surgery is typically used for deeper damage to the eye, or when there are other problems such as scarring from previous surgeries.

SALK is slightly different than DALK and DMEK in that it involves making a small incision in the surface of the cornea and removing only a small part of the outer layer. It is similar to DMEK in that it does not involve taking out any of the stroma.SALK is typically used in cases where the surface of the cornea is especially thin and delicate, or when there are other eye problems such as scarring.
