Vitrectomy Surgery In Thiruvananthapuram

There are a number of vitrectomy surgeries that can be performed in Thiruvananthapuram. These surgeries involve the removal of a section of the vitreous gel from within the eye. The surgery is typically done as a preventative measure, or to correct a condition that is causing vision problems.

A vitrectomy may be performed using local anesthesia or general anesthesia. Once the patient is under anesthesia, a surgeon will make an incision in the front of the eye. The surgeon will then use a laser to break up the vitreous gel and remove it from within the eye. This procedure can often restore your vision if it is not currently working properly.

If you are experiencing vision problems that cannot be resolved with conservative methods such as eyeglasses or contacts, consider having a vitrectomy surgery performed in Thiruvananthapuram. The surgeon at our clinic can help you determine if this is the best option for you.

Types of Vitrectomy

There are three main types of vitrectomy: pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), transconjunctival sutureless vitrectomy (TSV), and endoscopic subretinal or epiretinal approach.

PPV is the most common type of vitrectomy and involves making a hole in the cornea using a surgical microscope. This is usually done as an emergency procedure to remove a detached retina or to relieve pressure from an intraocular hemorrhage.

TSV is performed using a small incision in the lower eyelid. The surgeon then inserts a special telescope into the eye that allows them to see inside the eye. They use this information to make an incision in the retina and withdraw it. Finally, they make a small hole in the iris and insert a tube through which they can introduce fluid to dissolve the blood clot. This procedure is often used to remove large amounts of fluid from the eye after an accident or surgery that has caused high intraocular pressure.

Endoscopic subretinal or epiretinal approach is similar to TSV, but it uses an incision in the lower eyelid instead of a small one near the eyeball. The surgeon then makes an opening in the iris and inserts a tube through which they can introduce fluid into the eye. This procedure is often used for more serious cases of glaucoma or for removing pieces of cataracts that cannot be removed using other methods.
